Headword line[edit]

I agree headword-lines should be templatized; I clean up bare-wikitext headword-lines when I see them. I haven't encountered many new instances, it seems to have been something that was done early in Wiktionary's history and discontinued (maybe it's still done by IPs who don't use the new-entry templates?). I wouldn't even consider it to need a vote any more than we would need a vote saying it's OK to add referenced etymological information to entries that lack it — it's just a natural part of improving entries. Can anyone think of exceptional cases where wikitext would be needed/preferable? Do any Egyptian entries need to use wikitext? Some do in practice use partial wikitext, e.g. djw ḥryw rnpt, but there it seems unnecessary — it would be easy to incorporate that wikitext into the {{head}}. - -sche (discuss) 21:15, 28 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

ELE expansion[edit]

I expanded this vote with 2 sections in WT:ELE that I believe should be edited out because they still allow bare-wikitext headword lines. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 22:55, 28 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Proposal 3[edit]

I don't like the wording of any of the three options. I don't even really understand the purpose of the original paragraph. --WikiTiki89 19:19, 29 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

The purpose of that paragraph is explaining what exactly is the headword line. The option I like the most is this, but I'm open to further changes to the text:
"The headword line is the line directly below the part of speech header, in which the current word is repeated, along with their inflections. Some languages also display other information here, including genders and romanizations, when applicable. You can use either the generic template {{head}} or language-specific templates, such as {{en-noun}} (for English nouns)."

I think these minor changes will be better: "The headword line is the line directly below the part of speech header, in which the word is repeated, along with its inflections. Some languages also display other information here, such as genders and romanizations, when applicable. You can use either the generic template {{head}} or language-specific templates, such as {{en-noun}} for English nouns." --WikiTiki89 17:16, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Fine by me. I edited the proposal 3 with the changes you suggested. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 17:42, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
