Description
English: A heavy stem about 10 kg in weight, with many small fruits, showing its somewhat heart-shaped form. When ripe, fruit can be detached and can be eaten fresh or cooked in simple or complex recipes or pressed to extract oil. Individual fruit size 3.5 to 4 cm in length. Maturing red/yellow fruits are protected by stiffened dry protuberances, but when ripe easily detach. Not soft or sweet, fruits can be softened by boiling. Very little pulp over a kernel with a lot of fibers, but with flavor and high calorie oil content. Available and popular across the entire equatorial African region, Southern Senegal to Ghana to Central Africa, DR Congo, to Kenya.
