Pair of Esu figures, Igbomina are estimated to date from 3rd quarter 20th century. The Igbomina Yoruba employ a distinctive ritual object for Esu, the messenger of the gods. It consists of a group of carvings, usually 2 pairs of male and female figures, to which long strands of cowrie shells, symbols of wealth, are attached. It is Esu who possess the power to bring opposites together in fruitful relationships. from Yoruba, 9 centuries of African art and thought. P. 29 Measuring 38cm.
