Description WATER-CARRIERS IN BALUCHISTAN. Throughout the whole of the East the trade of the water-carrier, the " Bhistie." as he is called in India, is an ancient and honourable one. Whatever else may be dispensed with, a supply of the treasured water must always be available in a land of scotching suns, if life is to be preserved- British rule is gradually covering India with a vast system of irrigation works, but for the most part water is still supplied by means of the primitive appliances hero shown. The patient bullocks are laden with skins made water-tight with resin or some such material, and no other device has yet been discovered by which the liquid can be so easily and safely transported under existing conditions. Easy to carry when empty and easily adjusted when lull, the "mussock." or water-skin, has held its own from the days of Abraham.
