  1. (mathematics, logic) A unary operation on logical values that changes true to false, and false to true.

Usage notes[edit]

  • The symbols ¬, !, ~, ˈ and Ā have all been used for the NOT operator in various contexts.
  • Boolean variables and states (AND, OR, NOT, TRUE, FALSE etc.) are commonly written in all uppercase in order to distinguish them from the ordinary uses of the words.
