From Latin synōnymum, from Ancient Greek συνώνυμον (sunṓnumon), neuter singular form of συνώνυμος (sunṓnumos, synonymous), from σύν (sún, with) + ὄνομα (ónoma, name). Compare Russian сино́ним (sinónim), Belarusian сіно́нім (sinónim), Polish synonim.
