Inherited from Old Church Slavonic чоудотворьць (čudotvorĭcĭ), a calque of Ancient Greek θαυματουργός (thaumatourgós). Equivalent to чу́до (čúdo, miracle) +‎ творе́ц (tvoréc, doer, maker).

Compare Russian чудотворец (čudotvorec) and Serbo-Croatian чудотворац.
