Pronunciation[edit]

Does the UK speaker really say /wɒndəwɔːt/? There is very little lip rounding and it sounds more like [wɐndəwɔːt] to me, thus with /ʌ/. This would also be a good approximation of the German [ä]. -- I'm sure that /ɒ/ also exists, simply because of English wander. But to the degree that speakers try to approximate the German pronunciation, it would be very unusual to use /ɒ/ [ɒ~ɔ] for German "a". Any of /æ/ [æ~a], /ʌ/ [ɐ], or /ɑː/ would be closer. 77.13.77.246 15:09, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I assume that /wɒndəwɔːt/ represents the pronunciation of an English speaker who is not attempting to reproduce how the word is pronounced in German. — SGconlaw (talk) 18:18, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Plural pronunciation[edit]

@Sgconlaw Why did you put it on this page? It belongs at Wanderwörter. Ultimateria (talk) 18:14, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I've noticed that in some cases when a word has a non-standard plural we also provide the pronunciation of that plural at the lemma. I guess it's for convenience for readers? — SGconlaw (talk) 18:16, 21 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
