From Middle French have, from Old French have, from Old Frankish *haswi (“grey-coloured, grey”), from Proto-Germanic *haswijaz, *haswaz (“grey”) (compare Middle High German heswe (“pale”), Old English hasu (“dark, sombre”); see also German Hase (“hare”)). More at hazy.
