Formed as para- +‎ -philiae; equivalent to the Ancient Greek πᾰρᾰ́ (pará, beside) + φῐλῐ́αι (philíai) (philiai; nominative plural form of φῐλῐ́ᾱ (philíā), philia, “friendship”, “love”, “affection”, “fondness”); compare paraphilia.
