Etymology 1[edit]

Inherited from Byzantine Greek ἀνάλατος (análatos). Morphologically, αν- (an-, un-) from (-a) privative + αλάτ(ι) n (alát(i), salt) + -ος (-os, suffix for adjectives).[1]
