From Byzantine Greek δόντιν (dóntin), δόντιον (dóntion), from Ancient Greek *ὀδόντιον (*odóntion), diminutive of ὀδούς, ὀδόντος (odoús, odóntos), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃dónts (“tooth”).
