Inherited from Old East Slavic обезьꙗ́на (obezĭjána), обозьꙗ́на (obozĭjána), borrowed from Persian ابوزینه (abuzina), بوزینه (buzina, simian). Cognate with Russian обезья́на (obezʹjána).
