Yiddish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

By surface analysis, אײַנ־ (ayn-) +‎ וווינען (voynen). Compare uncommon German einwohnen (to settle in, to co-inhabit). Possibly a back-formation from אײַנוווינער (aynvoyner), as this verb is not well-attested.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈaɪ̯nvɔɪ̯nən/

Verb[edit]

אײַנוווינען (aynvoynen) (past participle אײַנגעוווינט (ayngevoynt))

  1. to settle in, to settle (a place), to adapt (a place) for habitation
