From Belarusian вя́лы (vjály), Russian вя́лый (vjályj), Ukrainian в'я́лий (vʺjályj). ־נ־ (-n-) form derives from the verbs вя́нуць (vjánucʹ), вя́нуть (vjánutʹ), в'я́нути (vʺjánuty), ultimately from Proto-Slavic *vędnǫti.
