Etymology[edit]
Folk etymology traditionally holds that סקאָצל (skotsl) was a real feminine name, but it has also been suggested by some that סקאָצל (skotsl) comes from a contraction of the phrase "sei Gotts willkommen", with sei (“his”) being the Bavarian equivalent of German sein.
