Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *artïč (juniper), from Proto-Iranian *hampr̥sā (juniper); cognate with Azerbaijani ardıc, Bashkir артыш (artış), Southern Altai артыш (artïš), Tatar артыш (artış) and Tuvan артыш (artış). Doublet of ابهل (ebhül, ubhul), the same word from Arabic أَبْهُل (ʔabhul) which was borrowed from its Middle Persian descendant.
