Etymology[edit]
Definite relative noun (nisba) composed of قُسْطَنْطِين (qusṭanṭīn, “Constantine”) + ـِيَّة (-iyya). Probably an ellipsis of اَلْمَدِينَة الْقُسْطَنْطِينِيَّة (al-madīna l-qusṭanṭīniyya, “the city of Constantine”).
