Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from an Iranian word of the form kōt-ak, from which Persian کوتنگ (kotang, heavy stick); see Arabic كُذِين (kuḏīn, fuller’s beetle) for more.

Noun[edit]

  1. cudgel, bat, a stout stick with a rounded head used as a weapon

  2. bastinado, a blow with a cudgel or stick, or a beating with sticks
