Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *prews- (to fry, burn, radiate, sprinkle). Cognate with some or all of Latin pruina (rime, hoarfrost), pruna (burning coal), pruriō (to itch) whence English prurient; English freeze, frost.
