Etymology[edit]

တၟံ (tmaʼ, stone) +‎ ဂစး (gacaḥ, sourness), thus literally “stone of sourness” (cf. Burmese ကျောက်ချဉ် (kyaukhkyany)).

Particularly: “/tàmɔ́ kìaʔt͡ɕàh/ based on ตะเมาะเกียะจะห์ from อนุสรณ์ สถานนท์ (1984), but Halliday's original seems different from it and note that not like Thai, Mon has no distinction in either tone or vowel length.”
