Etymology[edit]

From later Middle Georgian ხაჭაპური (xač̣aṗuri). From ხაჭო (xač̣o, curds) +‎ პური (ṗuri, bread). Folk etymology derives the term from the name of a Georgian baker called *ხაჭა (*xač̣a) who first made this dish.
