Etymology

From Proto-Hellenic *hrówos, from Proto-Indo-European *srówos, from *srew- (“to flow”). Cognate with Sanskrit स्रव (srava), Latvian strava, Lithuanian sravà, Proto-Slavic *ostrovъ.
