- Although 體育館/体育馆 (tǐyùguǎn) and 健身房 (jiànshēnfáng) both translate into gymnasium or gym in English, the former refers to a venue used for sports and competitions, while the latter refers to a gym which provides facilities for physical exercise.
- Not to be confused with 體育場/体育场 (tǐyùchǎng).
