From 회음 (會陰, hoeeum, “perineum”) + 부 (部, bu, “part”).
Pronunciation[edit]
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈɸwe̞(ː)ɯmbu] ~ [ˈhø̞(ː)ɯmbu]
- Phonetic hangul: [훼(ː)음부/회(ː)음부]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
