Inherited from Proto-Turkic *-niŋ. Cognate with Chuvash -ӑн (-ăn), Turkish -nin, Uzbek -ning, Kazakh -дің (-dıñ).

- Unlike some Turkic languages, the initial n- drops after words with consonant endings.
- 𐰋𐰏 (beg, “lord”) + 𐰤𐰭 (n²ŋ) → 𐰋𐰏𐰭 (begiŋ, “the lord's”)
