Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Tai *ɓlɯənᴬ (“moon; month”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨯᩮᩬᩥᩁ, Lao ເດືອນ (dư̄an), Lü ᦵᦡᦲᧃ (ḋoen), Shan လိူၼ် (lǒen), Thai เดือน (dʉʉan), Bouyei ndianl, Zhuang ndwen or mbwen, Saek เบรี๋ยน. Compare also Proto-Austronesian *bulaN (whence Malay bulan).
