Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Athabaskan *kʸan (rain). Possibly related to the root -TSĄĄD (to be pregnant).

Navajo níłtsą́ (rain) originates from this root. Other cognates are found in Ahtna caan (rain), Dena'ina kun (rain), Koyukon konh (rain) and Hupa kyangkyoh (hailstorm).
