why is this appendix necessary ? OrenBochman 15:02, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Seems to be almost entirely the work of Panda 10 (talkcontribs) who's a very good editor. The introduction just says that -ly- is often confused with -j-. That's all I know. --Mglovesfun (talk) 15:14, 23 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Discussion copied from the defunct "Category talk:Hungarian terms spelled with ly"[edit]

Similar categories that would be worth creating and populating: Hungarian terms spelled with dz, dzs, ch, x, y (excluding those containing only the digraphs gy, ly, ny, ty), q, w and possibly ty and ű, which are also rare. Adam78 (talk) 20:31, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I just found there is Appendix:Hungarian words with dzs. Maybe this format is more suited to such a collection than a category. The category of ly words is rather deficient. Maybe it could be deleted and a comprehensive list in the appendix would suffice. Two means for the same purpose only ends in forking and double maintenance, so a single one would be better. @Panda10? Adam78 (talk) 12:08, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Adam78 Yes, I can edit each entry, remove the cln template, then delete this category. Originally, I created this category to follow the standard in English entries. I wanted to move all entries from the appendix to the category. But if you think the appendix is suited better, I can reverse it. Panda10 (talk) 17:42, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Panda10: My only problem with the category is that it may be too much trouble to populate and maintain, especially considering the fact that there are lots of compounds (altogether over 2000, e.g. around 300 containing hely, including those not yet entered) that would have to be added once their articles are created. An appendix can have links to terms that are not (yet) present in a category. On the other hand, is there any goal the existing appendix cannot accomplish but could be accomplished with a category? (Things like those mentioned here or here.) In practice, I'm not sure there is, but I may be wrong. Adam78 (talk) 12:38, 6 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Adam78 OK, I will work on cleaning up the entries and removing the category. Panda10 (talk) 16:53, 6 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Adam78 This is done. I will wait for a day and remove this talk page, as well. Panda10 (talk) 17:45, 6 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
