From Kazakh Әуелхан (Äuelxan, male given name), consisting of әуел (äuel, first) + хан (xan, khan, ruler), and various surnames derived therefrom, including Әуелханов m (Äuelxanov), Әуелханова f (Äuelxanova), and the patronymics Әуелханұлы m (Äuelxanūly), Әуелханқызы f (Äuelxanqyzy). Compare the Russian borrowed form Ауельхан (Aujelʹxan), etc.
