Etymology[edit]
Derivative with the suffix + *-ъ from the verb *šusti, from earlier *sjaustī, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *sjaustei, from earlier *sjautstei, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂sewt-e-ti, from *h₂sewt- (“to move about, roil, seethe”). Probably akin to Latvian šaũlis (“fool”).
