- Cited superficially, but I wonder whether the "that which/one who accepts" sense is distinct from a sense that is purely synonymous with "recipient". I'll do more digging. This, that and the other (talk) 01:54, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

- Reopened. The 1888 citation (H. Freeman Wood) has "recipient", not "accipient"; this was a scanno. Equinox ◑ 10:30, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Equinox What makes you think it's a scanno? The original 1888 edition has this word: [1]. There's a modern edition in Google Books where it has been altered to "recipient".
- Having said that, it's a poor cite since, irrespective of what was actually printed, it does appear to be an error for "recipient". Mrs. Byde is having a letter sent to her; she is not accepting anything but just passively receiving. I'll add another cite. This, that and the other (talk) 11:23, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
