Is there any real attestation for sense 3 (An artilleryman; a gunner)? The Chekhov story (it's actually "The Kiss", "Поцелуй", from The Party and Other Stories) [1] uses "bombardier" with "gunner", "officer", "general" just as if it was a rank (sense 1). Anyway, it is translated from Russian,[2] where "bombardier" is used for the words фейерверке(р) (fejerverke(r)) and уносный (unosnyj). —Michael Z. 20:52, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
