Plural or uncountable?[edit]

Surely this is (at least sometimes) uncountable as an English noun?

  1. In our first mechanical engineering class we were introduced to the topic of spring dynamics.
  2. We were shown three different springs, and each spring's dynamics was discussed in turn.
  3. We were shown three different springs, and each spring's dynamics were discussed in turn.
  4. *So we studied a total of three dynamics.

The first two work perfectly for me; I'm ambivalent on the third sentence; the last one doesn't work for me at all.
