"persuade"

The current definition reads 'Said to persuade the interlocutor to stop looking lustfully at the speaker's body.' "Persuade" doesn't seem like the right word, makes like it seem like it's a discussion rather than a... what. I've put in remind and prompt, but those didn't make the cut, you can see the reasons given in the history. --Simplificationalizer (talk) 01:31, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

@Simplificationalizer: If you prompt someone to do something, it sounds like they are waiting, and you give them the signal. "The actor stood on the stage until I prompted him to raise the curtain." And if you remind someone, that means that they already knew it, and you are just jogging the memory, so that they know it again: that's not true for the breast-staring, because they probably wanted and intended to stare at breasts, and you aren't merely reminding them of good manners that may never have been there. Persuading typically involves more than a simple directive. Persuading involves an argument being made for a position or course of action, and there is no argument in 'my eyes are up here'. The only novel information being communicated is that I know you're eying me. And perhaps it's not a mainstream use, but in the psych ward we were 'prompted' to, say, turn in any sharps they saw hidden in our rooms.--Simplificationalizer (talk) 02:30, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
