Napper = head[edit]

I always thought that the derivation of napper = head was from knapper, a tool used to break stones (knap) ... a kind of jokey folk image, like the head of a ball-peen hammer. It certainly seems to fit better than associations with the other meanings of nap. It may not be current slang, but I certainly used it as a kid around Merseyside a hundred years or so ago.

Back then I sometimes heard this piece of advice: "Hit it with your napper!" ("It" being a soccer ball.)
