There's an alternative etymology for the Mexican Spanish vato from Iberian Spanish bato, from Caló, originally meaning "father". It's a bit confusing because the word caló can also refer to Mexican slang, but this wiki explicitly says gitano.--88.73.35.55 17:03, 6 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
