Golette[edit]

Gole is a form of West French gueule (snout), typical of Norman, Gallos and "Poitevin" French. Golette is formed with the suffix -ette meaning little. In the Middle Ages it was pronounced "gwolette" that gave wallet in Anglo-Norman French. Indeed a wallet is like a small snout which swallows coins. Littré : la gueule du sac means "l'entrée du sac". — This unsigned comment was added by 2a02:120b:c3d7:30b0:9c6a:f852:f369:9502 (talk) at 10:58, 5 September 2021 (UTC).Reply
