Template talk:homophones

French is rather unusual in this respect. it might be worth having a separate {{fr-homophones}}. Adding lots of additional fields to this template would add server starin to every usage of the template where it isn't really needed. --EncycloPetey 13:55, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Anything new happened on this front? Just went myself to look for French homophones when I noticed that the French category was empty... which I _KNEW_ couldn't be right... so could we at least to begin with have the normal French homophones category and sort it out later? Yes, I know that, but what about if people want to search for French homophones (for any old reason)? I can see here that there was talk to make a special template for French, what happened to that? 1. The French homophone category is empty because there's a line in the code that especially stopped the categorization of French homophones, because literally each word has homophones.
2. I thought I have used Lua so that this template could contain as many homophones as possible?

Disambiguation

When a word is homophonic with only one of several homographs, I have previously had to disambiguate with parentheses, out of the template, as here and here. Perhaps this could be integrated into the template?__Gamren (talk) 19:01, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

@Eugrus: For which language? There are both automatic transliterations generated by a module (like that of Russian or Arabic) and manual transliterations following a standard (like that of Hebrew and Persian). The transliterations used by {{homophones}} are the same as are used in other templates, like {{l}} and {{m}}. — Eru·tuon 18:41, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
