Welcome[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! 2024.02.15. ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 05:15, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Welcome[edit]

Welcome kyrie Νίκο and thank your for contributions. It will be very exciting to have you with us also here, at en.wikt! Our administrators for Ancient Greek is Mr Mahagaja and for Modern Greek is Mr Saltmarsh. We are at your disposal for any questions. PS. We do not tick Minor edit unless it is a very small thing changed like a comma or one letter like this one, but not at edits like here. To find instructions for templates, type at SearchBox T:xxxx. -sorry to bring it up here: about our personal preparatory work searching at indices like at ἀγελάδα: I don't think the whole procedure should be published, except perhaps the final addendum with new info- We do not have Medieval Greek yet -it is just a label under Ancient Greek at the moment-, but I am trying to get it, so that I restart editing at en.wikt too. Happy edits! ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 05:15, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

PS. M @Nikos1nikos1, I do not intend to comment on any policy at el.wikt anymore. But, just a small note, a convention: normally, User.pages are private & personal and can be altered by their owners, not anyone else (unless there is permission or vandalism);[1] Perhaps the owner would like to see which of his links are blue (done) and which red. Looking forward to your en.wikt edits. ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 12:11, 17 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Sarri.greek Thank you. I didn't know that. I'm not going to intervene to private pages of other users. I hope you'll be back at el.wikt sometime. Many things at grc and gkm sectors are unfinished. You have taught me so many things. I am so grateful. You are such a methodical, meticulous and polite user. My english is not perfect. I'm sorry if I make some mistakes.Nikos1nikos1 (talk) 12:45, 17 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Kyrie @Nikos1nikos1, not to worry, ούτε my english is very good. I look up words all the time. Thank you for your very kind words. I find the atmosphere at el.wt. too sloppy and rude, lately. Here was my first home base. En.wikt policies, templates and WT:ELE, WT:CFI are much stricter, so that most issues are resolved and 'talks' about them, pointless. This period, I shall try to focus on en.wikt-el.wikt corresponding lemmata. But first, I must try to fix Medieval Greek... Please, let me know for anything you need. ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 12:57, 17 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

About to love or I love[edit]

ενημέρωση (enimérosi), about ongoing discussion: to... or I... for Latin (but also other languages) at Beer.2023.10. discussion ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 11:02, 19 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

The en.wikt style[edit]

Kyrie Niko, the way en.wikt operates is a bit different from el.wikt. If you ever wish to discuss some differences, my email is sarrikaterina@yahoo.com ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 15:28, 21 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Chroniko Moreos[edit]

Kyrie @Nikos1nikos1, the el.wikisource for Χρονικόν του Μορέως is just terribly anchored, and there is no source (it is part of the edition Kalonaros). The archive.org has the ed.Schmitt which is the same (with codex Parisinus in one page and Havniensis on the other): see wikt:el:ἀρχοντολόγι for the usage of https://archive.org/details/chronicleofmorea00schmuoft ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 13:53, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

+ Some unfinished notes at wikt:el:User:Sarri.greek/ChronMor, if you are interested.‑‑Sarri.greek  I 14:07, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ancient Greek vowel length[edit]

Hi, when using {{grc-IPA}}, please remember to mark α ι υ as long or short (unless they're part of a diphthong). Thanks! —Mahāgaja · talk 13:01, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Kyrie Niko, I only know how to copypaste them from this table User:Sarri.greek/fonts#greek_prosody, but not all of them are correct... ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 14:31, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

ΛτΗ[edit]

Kyrie Niko! thank you SO much for taking care of ΛτΗ. Usually we put modern monotonic words. Of course, also ancient of koine or med. But we don't insist on them, otherwise readers might think we are champions of ancient only, or polytonic only? Thank you for all your hard work at el. and en.wiktionary too! ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 17:03, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Nice try[edit]

Hello kyrie Niko, καλό μήνα. Nice try, the alias, etc. Make uppercase Β not β (names of Cats alwyas with κεφαλαίο first letter). Also: they will have to discuss all historic-phase ephithets applied to a Cat. Because wikt:el:Κατηγορία:Μουσική (μεσαιωνικά ελληνικά) is what? It is Byz.Music. ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 15:10, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Could you check if some other changes should be made? I made some changes.Nikos1nikos1 (talk) 15:29, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
M @Nikos1nikos1 it should be fine now. just use auto cat σκέτο. As for the Cat itself... I don't see any period-subcats at wikt:en:Category:Music, but only some genres. In general, I am not in favour of splits to subcategories, unless there is a large number of words, perhaps shown in an Appendix, good refs and a clear goal. Because all these words will be taken away from the general Cat. ‑‑Sarri.greek  I 16:48, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
