Borrowed from French anarchisme, from anarchie (“anarchy”) + -isme (“ism”); from Medieval Latin anarchia, from Ancient Greek ἀναρχία (anarkhía, “anarchy, lack of a leader”), itself from ἀν- (an-, “without”) + ἀρχός (arkhós, “leader”).
