- Inherited from Prakrit 𑀯𑀳𑀼𑀮𑀺𑀆 (vahuliā),[1] from Sanskrit वधूटी (vadhūṭī).[1][2]
- Inherited from Sanskrit व्यवहारिका (vyavahārikā, “female servant”).[2][3]
- Borrowed from Iranian.[4]
