Etymology[edit]

From Hindi [Term?] or Arabic كُوْتِيّة (kūtiyya), possibly linked to medieval Arabic قِطْعَة (qiṭʕa, a kind of galley),[1][2] or from an Indian language.[3]

  1. (India, historical) A fast-sailing vessel, with two masts and lateen sails, employed on the Malabar coast.
