From Late Latin diptycha, plural, from Ancient Greek, neuter plural of δίπτυχος (díptukhos, “folded, doubled”), from δι (di) + -πτυχος (-ptukhos) (akin to Greek πτυχή (ptychí, “fold, layer”)).
