Swedish hälleflinta (literally “rock-flint”), from häll + flinta (compare Old Norse flettu (grjót (“flintstone”)), from Middle Low German vlint, from Old Saxon *flint, from Proto-West Germanic *flint).

- A fine-grained rock consisting of an intimate mixture of quartz and feldspar, sometimes banded or striated, sometimes containing porphyritic crystals of quartz.
