Plurale tantum; with prothetic h- from dialectal urdhe, plural of dialectal urdhë, from Proto-Albanian *wurdā, from Proto-Indo-European *wr̥dʰo (“sweetbriar”) (compare Old English word (“thorn-bush”), dialectal Norwegian erre, orr (“bush”), Latin rubus (“bramble”)). Standard Albanian has urth, originally a dialectal form.
