Etymology[edit]
- Possibly derived from the round shape of a pregnant abdomen, resembling that of a traditional boiled pudding.
- An alternative suggestion is an association with dialectal English pod (“belly”), German puddig (“swollen”), Westphalian Low German Puddek (“lump, pudding”).
