From Proto-Italic *meiɣjō, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃meyǵʰ-. Cognate with Latin mingō, Ancient Greek ὀμείχω (omeíkhō), Sanskrit मेहति (mehati), Old Norse míga, Tocharian B miśo.
