English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From organo- +‎ -nomy.

Noun[edit]

organonomy (uncountable)

  1. (dated) The biological laws regulating organic life.
    • 1835, London Medical and Surgical Journal, volume 6, page 554:
It has been proposed by some late authors to supersede the term physiology by the terms organonomy, phytonomy, zoonomy, bionomy, or some others now precisely indicative of the scope and bearings of the science; but this endless introduction, on every frivilous pretence, of new technical terms seems adapted much less to benefit, than to injure the cause of philosophy.
