Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Finnic *pihti (compare Estonian piht, Ingrian pihet pl, Karelian pihti, Veps pihthed pl, Votic pihed pl), from Proto-Finno-Permic *pište (compare Moksha [script needed] (peš), Komi-Zyrian [script needed] (peš) and Proto-Samic *pëstë, whence Northern Sami basta).

- (archaic) any two-pronged handtool or artifact to hold, press together or punch something, now usually in plural; a pincer
- pärepihti ― wooden shingle holder
